KEI

Keword Effectiveness Index, or KEI, is the value of the keyword based on the competition. There might be keywords that have hundreds of thousands of searches of each month, but if there are hundereds of millions of websites that are going after that word (competition), it is almost pointless to chase that keyword. You can always TRY to go for the term, but it might take you 10+ years of dilligent SEO, it's up to you to decide if it is worth it.

 

Each month your SEO Ranking Report will show your desired keywords, and their changes in KEI. Since SEO changes every month, it is important to track significant shifts in KEI importance. With this knowledge, you will know each month how to strategize your efforts. Make sure you or your staff are efficient with your practices, this will allow you to emphasize the important keywords and alot the necessary time to get the job done.

The SEO Ranking Reports are fairly simple to read. The KEI section is broken into mostly 4 important columns: Keyword, KEI, # Searches and Competition. The order of the keywords is  the recommended order of importance. As seen in the example above, there are 9,140,000 searches for "search engine optimization", but there are 55,000,000 website competitors. Though this keyword would be a goldmine, it will take a tremendous effort and time to ever capure it. However, the local terms seem to have reasonable searches, and have far less competiton. In order to get a faster return, the website above is focusing its efforts on the local demographic.
